Today has been such a productive day around here that I am ready to unveil my BIG project of the month a few days earlier than expected. Lately I have been seeing a lot floating around the inter webs about quiet books, and even though Tiny Tart is still a bit too young to grasp the concept, I decided that now is the perfect time to get a jump start on making my own. Then maybe I’ll give it to her for her birthday.
If you are not familiar with Quiet Books they are essentially fabric or felt books with activities on each page. They are great for keeping your child occupied in the car or a waiting room, or anytime you want to get something done! Most of the pages are teaching tools where a kid can practice colors, numbers, shapes, and coordination skills like buttons, snaps, ties, etc. Most of my pages are FAR too advanced for my 1 yo. to handle, but she’ll grow into it before long.

In keeping with the story-book theme I have by now also adopted for the month I decided to make each page based on a different Nursery Rhyme or Fairy Tale. In the planning stages I came up with ideas for 25 different pages, but I would never be able to bind that many together so I have narrowed it down to my favorite 15 (still probably too many but hey). Since there is an awful lot of detail going into each page, I have decided that each story (some are 2 pages) will count as its own project. (Ant thought this was cheating, but I don’t see him holding a needle, so I’m making the rules! lol.)
The first page I’m going to share is based on the rhyme Baa Baa Black Sheep, and teaches how to lift flaps and put the little bags of “wool” into a pocket.
The roofs all lift up and the bottom of the house is a pocket so you can help the sheep deliver her “wool”. The bags of wool are just the fluff form a pom pom that I sandwiched inside a little folded felt strip.
If you have ever worked with felt (without a die cutter!!) or done any embroidery, you can see why I am making each page a separate project. This is one of the more simple pages, and I still feel that it is pretty detailed!
Well, one down and 14 more to go! Hopefully I get the next one up tomorrow, but I’m also working on that Slipper Tutorial, so we’ll have to see.
