How to Sew – Buttonholes

Just don’t look too hard at the pink one and see how I screwed up. lol

If you are anything like me, this is a subject that you usually avoid at all costs. Even though I’m going to sit here and tell YOU how to make one, I’ll fully admit that buttonholes still give me headaches from time to time. It may be my machine, but it’s probably just me who keeps screwing everything up. Because even in school where they had a specific machine that did nothing but make buttonholes, it was still a pain in my tush!

Someday I hope I will be able to master this seemingly simple task, but (today at least) I’m here to let you know that even though it looks easy in the video, I made at least 20 tests on scrap fabric before getting it “right”! I really hope that doesn’t make you think less of me. (Remember. Those who can’t Do, Teach. lol)
So here goes…

Now you know what to do right?
Good, because we are on our way to making that keyhole dress.  If you didn’t already, check out the french seams from yesterday, and stop by tomorrow to learn all about piping.
Thanks for visiting!

(P.S. – Thanks everyone. I finally hit 50 followers!!! YaY! Once this dress is finished I’m gonna have to have a giveaway. Hmmm . . . Who likes fabric?)

  1. I haven't made a buttonhole in years. I can't find the little attachment to my machine! I have been meaning to get to the repair store but it's one of those things I just keep putting off. I would love to be able to make them again…I make a lot of pillow covers and buttons would be so cute. Anyway, I'm a new follower and I found your link at Sew Much Ado. I'm a fabric freak so I'm looking forward to your giveaway. I'm also posting a giveaway I think tomorrow so come by and check it out. Have a great day!

  2. Thanks! You do a great job with your explanations! Have you ever had the problem where your machine just sticks in the same place and forms a knot instead of a buttonhole? Any ideas?
