I’m SO excited to be sharing a new project with you today. For those of you who don’t already know, I went to school for fashion design. I know what your thinking, “Oh Ah, That’s so cool!” But, if I’m being totally honest with you. It sucked.
Yea, you read that right. I hated it. I even tried to change majors & schools after my freshman year, but my Mother wasn’t quite interested in hearing that. It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy sewing, or that it was too hard, as much as it was the other students. Evidently the only girls who go to school for Fashion are the ones who like to shop. (95% of those girls have never even seen a sewing machine before they start their 2nd year of college!!!) That isn’t me, I’m a jeans & Tee shirt gal. EVERY day. (I joke that the only thing I got out of school was my husband ; )

But, I like to work with my hands and it feels good to make other people pretty. Becoming a SAHM was the best choice I ever made! I can express my creativity however I want, and there aren’t any “critiques”. Plus I get to be part of this wonderful community where everyone is more interested in the creating, than so & so’s haircut or new heels. (not you, your haircut is darling…) I have learned so much already from the wonderful blogs I’ve read, and wanted to give something back.
So, even though I feel like some of the techniques you guys come up with are ingenious, I thought some of you might be interested in learning some of the “hoity-toity” fashion techniques that I spent WAY too much money to learn. (Where was my class on freezer paper stencils? or trace your own patterns? And why am I still confused by presser feet? lol)

The first garment I’d like you to make with me is this Keyhole Dress. You may have seen it from this post where I talked about getting my “rear in gear” as my Gramma would say. What better way to start than with the project that got me back into sewing?

I searched for a good french seam tutorial a while back and couldn't find one, so count me as one person excited for this!
I love your blog! So looking forward to seeing what you've got. I'm pretty new to sewing so I think this will be a much needed "course"!
I also have my bachelor's in Fashion Design and am now a SAHM! I loved school but let's be honest, if you want to have a family and stuff, you can't really be a designer! (At least not the normal family I wanted to have!) Kudos for you for such a great blog. I enjoy reading it and loved seeing your projects for your little girl. It has inspired me to get out my pattern drafting stuff and make some new things for my daughter!
I think this is a great idea! I will be following to see what you do and if I can learn it (cuz Im just impatient sometimes and dont wanna take the time) and then replicate it!

I think fashion designers, and those that work in the computer industry have one thing in common; they all want to build or create something that they themselves would enjoy using.
