Chocolate is pretty much a Valentine’s Day staple right? So this year I decided to try making Ant’s favorite
Simply Sensational Truffles a little more festive by making them heard-shaped.
I’ve never tried anything other than little round balls before so I was a little worried that this might turn out to be a disaster.
Luckily everything came together smoothly, and in less than 30 min. my chocolates turned out adorable and delicious!
If you’d like to make a batch for your sweetie you’ll need:
melting chocolate – cream cheese – ziploc bags and/or squeeze bottles
a silicon candy mold or ice cube tray (mine’s from Ikea) –
sprinkles – optional flavor extracts
Step 1 – Mix together melted chocolate and cream cheese to create your filling. (including additional flavors)
Melt more chocolate to be used as your truffle “shell”. Place both in ziplock bags of bottles.
Step 2 – Squeeze a small amount of the plain chocolate into each well of your mold. Use just enough to cover the bottom.
Place the mold in the freezer for a few minutes to help the chocolate set slightly.
*Keep your remaining chocolate from setting too quickly by placing it in a bowl of hot water.
Step 3 – Add the filling mixture to each of the wells in a rough “V” shape. Be sure to avoid touching the sides.
Step 4 – Fill any remaining space with plain chocolate to form the outer shell. Work slowly
and tap the mold on the counter every so often to help prevent and remove any stray air bubbles.
Step 5 – Flatten the bottoms of your truffles with a flat edge (like the back of a butter knife) and allow the chocolate to
completely harden. You can help speed up the setting process buy placing them in the refrigerator.
Once your truffles have set completely, carefully remove them from the mold and top them with sprinkles!
Of course you’ll need to do some sample testing to make sure they’ve turned out alright,
but try to leave at least a few for your special someone. 😉
Do you have any special plans for your valentine this year?
