Indie Love: Caroline Party Dress

Caroline Party Dress: Pattern by Mouse House Creations, sewn by Sugar Tart Crafts
How was everyone’s holiday? Barbecues, Pool Parties, Picnics? Here we tried to have a weekend full of fireworks and photoshoots, but there turned out to be much more whining and crying than we’d ever expected. I’m not sure what the problem is, but both munchkins have been in this kinda cranky, “I’m not listening”, meltdown mode for the past month. I’m pretty much losing my mind. Fun right? Not too sure if Life, Liberty, and the right to lock oneself in a closet to hide from their children, is exactly what our forefathers were going for, but I’m sticking with it. “Ha ha ha, They’re driving YOU nuts? Oh Ant – That’s so cute since you’ve only had them for 2 hours.”

Of course even a few of my projects have been in a bit of a snit this week too, so even though this was meant to be a “red white & blue, patriotic dress” I couldn’t find a red belt to save my life! And Reli didn’t want to wear it for the 4th of July anyway. Back-up Plan! Gold it is.
Even though it isn’t exactly what I had in mind, it still turned out pretty cute. And did I mention I Love this fabric! (Yes, with a capital L.) I knew the second I saw it that it would be perfect for a Caroline Party Dress, and I wanted to piece the stripes together in a way that made the gradient darkest in the center and then lighter as it moved out. It looks more fancy that way, but thank goodness it was easy to sew, because I don’t think I could handle drama in any more aspects of my world right now.
Sewing pattern review for the Caroline Party Dress by Mouse House Creations
Please, please, please don’t let the 5 sequin difficulty level scare you off. That rating is only because of the zipper. I know waaaay too many sewers that are scared of them, but the invisible ones honestly couldn’t be easier. Don’t believe me? Check out the video tutorial I made for them. I promise, easy peasy! You’ll be kicking yourself for putting them off for so long.

If you aren’t already a follower, you should definitely visit Hayley over at Welcome to the Mouse House and check out her sweet designs. She even made this same pattern in adult sizes so you can make matching mother-daughter dresses. You know, if your kids are the agreeable sort that might find it acceptable to wear matching outfits…..pssst, mine aren’t those kind of kids!

So what’s it been like in your neck of the woods? Anyone else getting stressed out over their kids summer antics? Corbin honestly just had a twenty minute argument (with himself!) this morning over which one of the three clean spoons he would use to eat his cereal. I understand we’re in the “I want to exert my independence ” mode, but What the heck kid? Go back to bed and pull yourself together!

  1. LOVE this dress. So classic and beautiful. Reli looks adorable in it! And if it's any consolation, we drove 30 minutes to get to a 4th of July parade, parked a mile away and walked to it because it was totally nuts, then lasted a whopping 10 (TEN) minutes because Darcy was flipping her lid over all the noise. Holiday bliss 😉

    1. Aww, man doesn't that suck? And then you kinda feel bad for Forrest because he has to go home too and it only happens once a year… Guess we know where Darcy inherited her introverted side from though! 😉

  2. What a cute dress! And the little model is pretty adorable too. I want to try making my daughter a dress, but so far I've only done home decor and costumes. Need to get over my fear and just do it right? My daughter would love it. Thanks for sharing at The Makers Toni. We love having you party with us!

    1. Thanks so much Corey! Maybe we should swap, because I'm definitely not getting anything sewn for around the house. Oops! I just keep telling myself that I only have a limited amount of time before Aurelia will want me to stop sewing for her. After that I can make all the pillows and curtains I want. 😉
