Sewing Binder Part 1: Lesson 3 Sergers

How do I sew an Overlock Seam?

  1. This stitch requires the use of an overlock machine or serger.
  2. Sparingly pin 2 pieces of fabric with the right sides together (RST).
  3.  Align the edge of the fabric with edge of the cutting blade.
  4. Stitch the seam.
  5. Press the seam flat.

When should I use an Overlock Seam?

A 3 thread overlock should be used to tidy up edges and prevent fraying.

A 4 thread overlock can be used to tidy up edges and prevent fraying, OR to sew seams using knit fabric.

Have a great weekend!
